Seiko Epson Corporation has started mass production of its new premium inertial measurement unit (IMU), the M-G570PR. This advanced model features a high-performance six-axis sensor, offering exceptional precision, low noise, and an IP67 rating for dust and water protection.
Epson introduced its first quartz-based gyroscope IMU in 2011, and since then, these IMUs have been widely used in various applications, including precision agriculture, small satellites, and EO/IR camera gimbals. With increasing demand for highly accurate positioning and attitude control in fields like surveying and aerial photography, the need for high-performance IMUs has grown significantly.
The M-G570PR, an upgrade to the M-G370PDG, utilizes Epson’s proprietary multi-sensor technology, achieving gyro bias instability of 0.5°/h and angle random walk of 0.04°/√h, providing enhanced measurement accuracy. Housed in an IP67-rated metal enclosure and equipped with an RS-422 serial interface, it is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications requiring high stability and reliability.
Epson anticipates continued growth in demand for precision sensors and will keep developing compact, efficient, and precise technologies to meet this need.
